2021 Cycle Challenge – over 500km from Bologna to Rome
Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey relies entirely on donations to help support their services including free emotional support, practical information and group support to people in Jersey with any type of cancer and at any stage, along with their families and friends.
Cancer has a major impact on everybody – with over 50% of people now expected to be diagnosed with some form of cancer in their life. Macmillan helps everybody affected in their time of need.
I used to keep in fairly good physical shape, raising money for cancer charities in memory of my Dad every couple of years (so I wasn’t pestering you too often). It will be three years since I last raised money by putting myself through a lot of pain (La Marmotte – a 180km cycle in the Alps that was mostly uphill… ouch…). The cycle challenge from Bologna to Rome will be tough. It will take days… each day being over 100km. Years gone by this may not have been a challenge. However as Strava can confirm, I have not kept this level of fitness up due mainly to work challenges. The last race I entered was an absolute disaster, as I didn’t have time to train. 7 hours of pain in Barcelona. I expect this effort will cause me a lot of pain for similar reasons.
I am hoping to regain some level of fitness so I can complete the event… I have broken bones in previous fundraising efforts… so please know that I will do everything I possibly can to complete this.
I would be extremely grateful if you could sponsor me any amount at all, to help raise funds for a charity that helps so many in their time of need, particularly with fundraising significantly reduced as a result of the Covid pandemic.
I promise not to send too many lycra pictures (unless requested).
I will also be donating all the cash I get from music productions & DJing until then to Macmillan, so please get in touch if you like the kind of music I play / produce – more at Gus F and https://soundcloud.com/gus-fraser on that.
Thanks for reading this far, and thank you SO much if you are able to donate anything at all.
