Jersey Rowathon – Redgrave’s Rookies
On 27th April, a small team of us from RBSI will take part in the Jersey Rowathon to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. This involves rowing almost 19 miles (30,000 meters) between us in the fastest possible time – using rowing machines. Many other teams also take part in this annual, and amazingly well-organised event and the competition can become quite intense.
The RBSI team consists of John Read, Andy Thomas, Marc Dunleavy, Ged Wilson, Gavin Toudic and myself. Most of us have been impacted by cancer in one way or another and so the cause is dear to our hearts.
I lost my Mum to cancer over 10 years ago. Hers was a short illness and I was incredibly fortunate to be able to help care for her in her own home until she died. During her last few weeks, the support she and our family received from specialist health workers, cancer charities and community nursing staff was fantastic. This level of support isn’t cheap, but is unbelievably important to those suffering.
Anything you are able to spare to support our efforts, but more importantly the incredible work of Macmillan, will be very much valued and appreciated.
