Why Kitchen Confidential and Why Macmillan Jersey?
Mercury are 100% locally owned and every year we as a business give something back to our community. Even though we are not a ‘big’ company, we feel it is important that we play our part. All of our customers are local so contributing to our community is one of our key drivers. From supporting various charities including Hospice, Jersey Rugby, to young chefs at Highlands and right through to being a main sponsor at the Island Games in 2015 each year we have tried to ensure that we contribute positively.
This year, we are taking a slightly different approach. We again are supporting various charities as well as continuing to our support of Jersey Rugby but in addition we have chosen a main charity, Macmillan Jersey, to focus on and hopefully a way in which we can include our major customers in a fun way! All of the chefs are busy people and we are grateful to them for giving their time to such a great cause.
Kitchen Confidential event at Restaurant Sirocco, Royal Yacht Hotel on Thursday 27th September. Steve Walker, Head Chef at Restaurant Sirocco, Royal Yacht Hotel, has kindly agreed to host two Kitchen Confidential events. Mercury will be sponsoring one of these events. Similar to the hit TV show Master Chef, eight amateur chefs will have the opportunity to be taught how to create a selection of dishes from the restaurants menu by Steve in the professional kitchen during the day. This will be followed in the evening by a full restaurant service, run by the participants for their invited guests, whether this be friends, family, colleagues or clients. This is not a competition, rather an experience to learn skills and tricks of the trade by an award-winning chef and to work, as well as serve in a 3 AA Rosette restaurant. Steve will choose his ‘top’ student from each event and award them with a private dining voucher for the exclusive Wine Cellar. The participants will have a full day of tuition and real life experience within a 3 AA Rosette restaurant, cooking from start to finish and producing high quality food in a professional environment. The lucky team of 8 will get to feel the expectations of colleagues/family/friends, whilst having to produce under the watchful eye of Steve and his team. Participants will of course, be fed and watered during the course of the day.
Why we are raising money for Macmillan Jersey?
Everybody has been touched in some way with cancer, a family member, a friend, a colleague it has touched us all.
When you or someone you love has had a cancer diagnosis it can affect your life physically, emotionally, practically, socially and financially. Macmillan Jersey are there from the moment cancer is diagnosed, through treatment and beyond, giving support and information to help people take back control. They also provide counselling, group support and complementary therapies. All their services, based at The Oasis, Macmillan Jersey’s cancer support centre, are free and confidential, costing the charity £28,000 per month. All monies raised from these two events will be staying in Jersey.
