Paola’s Ride London for Gerry
Sadly, last year my father-in-law Gerry, passed away to Cancer. At the time I promised Gerry’s family I would do the Prudential Ride London in his memory. Although Carol, his wife was and still is apprehensive about my safety, I reassured her that I would be fine and that Gerry would be with me all the way.
When Macmillan Jersey mentioned they were offering out places on the ride on 4th August, I put my name down straight away. The training is now complete and 17 of us from Jersey will ride 100 miles in one day to raise money to support Macmillan Jersey. Macmillan do amazing work, offering free support to people in Jersey with any type of cancer at any stage, along with providing support for their families and friends. Little did I know that a few months later I would find myself struggling with my own emotions following Gerry’s passing. Having completed my first Macmillan Jersey ride in 2018, I asked if I could pop into the Oasis to chat with one of their trained volunteers. The lady I spoke with was fantastic and helped me deal with and understand the emotions I was experiencing.
I can’t thank Macmillan Jersey enough for the help they gave me. It now seems so appropriate that I do this ride for Gerry and fund raise for this charity which is dear to my heart and enable them to continue their good service.
