Information about cancer
We will listen to you and help you find resources that suit you at the time. We have a wide range of information, including leaflets, DVDs and CDs. We also have a library of books that you can take away or borrow. The most popular information taken by people using our services includes; talking to children, healthy eating and recipes, coping with tiredness, and how to support and talk to someone diagnosed with cancer.
We can let you know about all the professionals, services and support groups who can help you, both locally and in the UK. If you prefer to find information on the web we recommend you visit the national Macmillan website, Cancer Research UK and Patient Info. For trusted websites with more specific information please ask a member of our team.
As your needs will change, you can come and see us as much or as little as you like. You don’t need an appointment and you don’t need to be referred. Just drop in to The Oasis.
I was very impressed with The Oasis and was warmly welcomed by the lovely staff and volunteers. They helped me greatly with all the concerns I had about my treatment and have been a great help and support to my family too.
Worried about cancer?
Many people worry about cancer, usually because we know someone who has had it. Or you yourself might be experiencing some symptoms that you are concerned about. Either way we are here for you too.
You don’t have to have a diagnosis before you come and see us. We can help you find non-threatening and accurate information about signs and symptoms of cancer and talk about ways in which you can reduce your risk.
Going to The Oasis has reassured me that information and questioning are key to arriving at a desired point and being confident in my treatment decision. The centre environment is most attractive, calming and reassuring – it has a homely feel. I felt confident that my discussion was entirely confidential.
