Who we are
Macmillan Cancer Support Jersey offers free emotional support, practical information and group support to people in Jersey with any type of cancer and at any stage, along with their families and friends. We also have a wellbeing service which includes complementary therapies and diet and exercise advice. All our services are free and confidential. Our services are provided from The Oasis, Macmillan Jersey’s cancer support centre, based at the Lido Medical Centre.
To support and empower people in Jersey affected by cancer.
The challenge and our aim
Cancer is increasing and by 2020 it is estimated that nearly 1 in 2 of the population will receive a cancer diagnosis at some time during their lives. The increase is mainly because people are living longer. Due to improved treatments many more people will live beyond cancer, and our service aims to meet the growing demand and changing needs.
We aim to ensure people feel empowered to make the right decisions in terms of their treatment options and to live well with and beyond the diagnosis, knowing their family and friends are supported also.
We are practical experts
We are recognised for our expertise in everything we do – from providing cancer support, to fundraising, to being a voice in Jersey when it comes to raising awareness of cancer. Our reputation is based on constantly improving our skills and involving people affected by cancer – the real experts – in all areas of our work.
We are open
We understand that collaboration is the only way we can help improve the lives of everyone affected by cancer. We are open-minded and inclusive. That is why we share our expertise and experience.
We inspire others
Our shared commitment to what we do inspires us to do our best. Our positive energy inspires people affected by cancer to cope with their experience. Our passion inspires people in Jersey to get involved and to change the lives of everyone living with cancer.
We demand better
Whatever we do, we always believe there’s room for improvement. So we demand better – from ourselves and others.
We are personal
We treat everyone we come into contact with as an individual and with care. We listen to their experiences and needs and provide them with the personal support that’s right for them. That’s true whether they’re a person living with cancer, someone who wants to raise money or a potential volunteer.
